Women deserve empowering births. Several upcoming events at Sweet Cane Cafe will inform women about the different choices they need to consider to guide their birthing experience to create a gentle birth for mother and baby.
The first event is Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Evidence-based information documents that a mother can have a better birth outcome when she has continuous support during the process of birth. This means women, when continuously supported during labor, have more vaginal births, 50% less Cesareans, less epidurals, better breastfeeding, better bonding with the family and a better memory of their birth experience.
The birth experience is a lifetime memory and a doula aims at being conscious of making this the most gentle, noninvasive experience as possible. Discover what a doula does during the Wednesday event.
On Oct. 30, learn about ways to transform the pain of birth into power. Participants will learn bout the Fear-Tension-Pain Cycle, adrenaline vs. Oxytocin, natural comfort measures including birth balls, hypnobirthing and intimacy.
The film “Organic Birth” will be introduced during the Nov. 6 event. International producer Deborah Pascali-Bonero, lead trainer for Doulas of North America, is coming to Hilo in January. Come join the class and become a doula.
On Nov. 13, come and meet the doulas and midwives who live and work in Hilo community.
And on Nov 20, participants will learn about the “Human Rights of Childbirth,” postpartum and breastfeeding support, how fathers are supported and newborn transitions.
Each event is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. Sweet Cane Cafe is located at 48 Kamana St. in Hilo. For more information, contact Mala Landt at 936-5306 or via email at gentlbirthheals@gmail.com.
